I have been able to get it to perform somewhat by shifting the VRO file to a MPG file. So far my reply has been to get several discs and switch the disc everytime I want a new clip to be separate from the others. But it doesn’t view properly if there are numerous clips in the file, unless of course I combine them all into one file on the camcorder initial. The files are in a VRO and IFO format. I have attempted using different software types and I haven’t discovered one particular that solves the problem. Recording functionality is fine, good quality is fine. I would also have loved it if I had been capable to just download one particular clip off my camcorder or somehow seperate them, so they can be viewed as separate files. If any individual knows and simpler way to fix this issue, I would adore to hear about it. But I have had enormous battles transfering the files to my computer, so they can be viewed on the net, and sent to close friends. then I upload them off each and every disk seperately.

Ulead software package does not come with the package deal. You have to acquire seperately. . Then you can burn files or clip to DVD disc to play as normal. I contacted Panasonic help and they said that I must have a computer software Ulead to develope its file in order to play on a pc. I have a exact same dilemma with VDR D220

I purchased a number of equipment for my camera:one) Tele-Converter lens (TL-30. The 22X optical zoom is fantastic. Some of the factors I made the decision on this make and model (right after months of study and hands on with digital camcorders in stores) is due to the large size of the buttons (they are straightforward to locate and depress),the compact size of the camera, and it’s very straightforward to operate. I had to set up a firewire card to my pc. A lot of their adverse feedback deal with issues that are drawbacks to ALL digital camcorders, and are talked about in the instruction booklet. I have downloaded several 60 minute MiniDV tapes to my editing program and have had NO detectable motor noise. Very useful book. I have not tested the nevertheless photograph choice nevertheless. I assume it’s amazing. I turned off the Digital Zoom. Another promoting point for me is the 22X Optical Zoom. (evening shooting, and so on) I am 100% pleased with this camera. The camera’s dimension doesn’t detract from it’s quality~ it is constructed of tough supplies and feels like it’s good quality, not junky at all. At Circuit City you can check it for 30 days and if you are not happy with it you get a total refund. 2) Capture, Generate, and Share Digital Motion pictures (Survive and Thrive series, Gateway Press) Teaches editing in Pinnacle Studio and Ulead Video Studiobut lessons are applicable to most video editing computer software. Some reviewers complained about the even now photos being poor good quality, but that is not an situation for me. five for my digital video editing, and bought two very valuable books on digital video filming and editing:1) How to Use Digital Video (SAMS Publishing) by Dave JohnsonTeaches editing in Adobe Premiere and MGI Video Wave III but the lessons are applicable to most video editing software. This is my initial camcorder. Has lots of excellent photographs of video editing software package screens and easy to follow directions. I can match the camera in my coat pocket and the weight is barely detectable. Excellent for folks who hike or hunt, etc. It is the highest degree OPTICAL zoom that I located of any MiniDV camcorder. I didn’t acquire it for even now photos. Quite helpful book. I have a feeling it will be quite excellent quality however THIS CAMERA DOES NOT COME WITH FIREWIRE CABLE, YOU Want 1 TO Download VIDEO TO Pc! Make positive you have one particular and that your laptop or computer has a FIREWIRE port. five)two) Lens filter set (FS-30. Full of very good photos of editing computer software screens and simple to comply with instructions. 5U)3) Canon Directional Stereo Microphone (DM-50)four) Canon Lens Cleansing Kit (Z-02-A ?)five) Sony Mini DV Head Cleaner (Digital Video Cleaning Cassette)six) Canon BP522 Lithium Battery and car charger7) Firewire cable for video capture (Camera DOES NOT come with firewire cable! You Need to have this to download the video to your laptop or computer!!!!)eight) SLIK 504QF-ll Video Tripod9) Canon Deluxe Back Pack Bag (200 EG)10) SIMA Video Light (fits on hotshoe) Model SL-9(I am positive the CANON VL-three Video Light or the VL-10li Battery Video light that match on the hotshoe are greater for this camera but I bought this on impulse at Circuit City) I purchased Adobe Premiere 6. . I recorded herds of elk that I could barely see with naked eye and with the 22X Optical Zoom they were shut ample to count antler factors and of extremely good high quality. I bought the optional directional stereo microphone that attaches to the accessory shoe for greater quality sound recording, but haven’t used it yet. Canon has an superb reputation for high top quality lenses. Filmed seaside at Pacific Ocean in Washington state, exceptional good quality films, zoomed in on distant objects and got extremely great quality shots. I believe that if most of those who left damaging evaluations had spent some time studying the manual and practicing with the manual and camera in hand, they would have been happy with the camera. I do locate it attractive to have the option of taking a even now photo with it once in a although

Not a novelty in camcording in basic, but a serious affordable client expansion if essential. Also, Canon offers wide and tele-converters specialized for the ZR series. Con:I couldn’t discover a con so far – perhaps the sound-quality the integrated microphone generates? Hm, given the dimension of the case, it would seem sensible. The 460,000 pixels of this camcorder appear a lot more than enough. Nevertheless, I discovered this camcorder notably intriguing and bought it given that I left the ‘semi-professional’ field (and being now an electrical engineer in software program advancement). Canon showed after once again that a camcorder style can meet nearly all of a buyer-customer’s demands:Wealthy performance, light-weight style, extensible by means of optional accessories like lenses, robust workmanship. It becomes affective once the optical zoom is exhausted to a 22x. . But believe about it: the optical unit which includes the lenses and the CCD has to match into half the length of a typical camcorder like the ZR 50 (Palm recorders do not have more than 10x zoom, the ZR 50 has 22x). No query, no matter what kind of digital camcorder you examine with an analog one particular, it is superior. 5) Ergonomics: Oh yes, I believed about a palm-ready camcorder, as well. six) Video Modes: Decide on 1 of the predefined video modes. A single note right here: please keep in mind that the miniDV regular builds on 5. three) Accessories: Just in situation you actually care about the relatively whining recorder server motors, please do acquire the optional microphone – it really is an wonderful addition if you do semi-professional sound-recordings. . Yeah, I am enjoying this camcorder. four) Internationality: Yes, there are other electrical power techniques out there: the Canon switching power provide is not only very light, it also connects to nearly every wall-outlet in the planet with the right (optional) plug-adapter. Here are my findings:Pro:one) Amazing workmanship: The high-grade plastic case pieces exactly fit and give the camcorder a valuable finish, the buttons have a properly defined ‘ignition’ point and the connectors for FireWire, USB, Analog Video and so forth. two) Exceptional cost / characteristic ratio: Though following the hype of marrying video with stills, this camcorder emphasizes on video (please, do purchase a digital camera if you need digital stills). Even so, if you want top quality video, turn it off. The image high quality is superb. Advised!. In other words, no matter what the (multi) colored CCD ship is capable of a resolution, it comes down to a highest of 370,000 productive pixels needed for NTSC video. The camcorder fits right into my hand, the zoom button can be accessed naturally without shifting the camcorder in your hand (consider Sony!) and the zoom button is depth sensitive – the deeper you zoom, the significantly less sensitive is the camcorder zoom-button. are ‘cemented’ into the situation. Additionally, beside so several other manufacturers out there, the digital zoom is even useable to a particular degree. Factors occasionally get much better – Canon improved this camcorder-series, and we really should be joyful about it! This is what I can say about a near model to this 1 (the ZR50MZ), the earlier top rated-model:I work with camcorders considering that 1988 – S-VHSC, Hi8, etc. 7 Mhz video bandwidth. Nonetheless, don’t anticipate wonders, every severe video-grapher recommends at least one hundred lux (a unit of measuring light-intensity). The outstanding optical unit with a real 22x zoom and one of the most effective picture stabilizer in the market place, mixed with a friendly consumer-interface like illuminated buttons and a clean menu, this camcorder is a bargain. A single of the most outstanding mode is the night-mode – if the moon strikes you, your ZR 50 will catch it

Possessing used several Hi8 and SVHS video cameras I was unsure what camera to buy. We have a traditional camera for these demands. No loss of top quality. . You can also hear the clicking of buttons and the motion of the zoom. I wasn’t in a position to hear the motor noise that everyone was speaking about. I am waiting to obtain the cost-free video editing software package by mail and will update you on the top quality of the software program with the camera. Following studying the critiques and asking associates and testing the camera. I filmed my nephew walking, working and playing with his toys. I thought I was watching digital cable! The wide angle attachment is ideal for group shots and significant space places. You do need a firewire cable for immediate connection to your MAC/Computer, nonetheless the pictures and 10 2nd movies can be downloaded with the USB. My wife liked the weight of the camera it is light and effortless to carry. The image quality from the photos wasn’t great but acceptable for e-mail. This is the 1st video camera I have bought. The camera is small and some background noise can be heard. Outside the camera’s image top quality was excellent. I purchased the ZR70MC at my regional electronics shop and quickly liked the appear and feel of the controls along with the excellent top quality of the video clips I was taking

USERS REVIEWS:

I quite considerably like the controls (although I certainly recommend attempting out the Panasonic-style joystick handle prior to acquiring — some men and women can not stand it, even though I assume it’s undoubtedly the way to go). For 0 – 0 less, you can get a very comparable camera that simply omits the 3CCDs and has digital picture stabilization. The auto mode, nevertheless, will take care of 99% of what I require, and does a remarkably great task managing white balance and shutter speed. Assume to buy a separate charger for extended shoots. You will particularly notice the richer picture detail if you edit your video in the built in software or iMovie or Final Lower or whatever you use. The capacity to go complete manual permits me to take excellent shots in low light, backlit, or otherwise strange scenarios. You can make significantly broader colour and image adjustments on the image from this camera than you could with a 1-CCD camcorder. The only factors that helps make me give this camera significantly less than 5 stars are the manual concentrate, which requires that you be in full manual mode and also needs two button presses (a single on the side of the camera, and then you alter employing the joystick), instead than staying totally joystick-driven as all the other manual controls are and the AC adapter/battery charger which can Either charge the battery or energy the camera, but can not do both at the identical time. Whilst it has some outstanding capabilities like 3 CCDs (so it captures richer color), optical image stabilization, and entirely manual controls it also lacks specific desirable attributes this kind of as a genuine focus ring (it has manual concentrate, but it is joystick driven and imprecise), a headphone jack (even though it does have line-degree audio out), and the potential to pass analog video by way of to digital video. What individuals further attributes give you, even so, is a richer picture with much less noise and more detail, and a considerably much more steady handheld picture. I’ve only had this camera for a few days, but I am very pleased with it. Personally, I am really pleased with this camera. To get all people features, you’d require to devote about 0 – 0 far more on one thing like the PV-GS500. This camera sits in a very unusual spot among client cameras and pro level (or at least prosumer) cameras. . Before purchasing this camera, nevertheless, take a seem at what else is out there

In contrast to EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) OIS does not degrade the picture high quality. I just edit and then make DVDs. Right here is a Large TIP. one chip will not be in a position to reproduce the colors realistically. The camcorder has a ton of manual controls for gain, IRIS, white stability, etc. It is cheap insurance to safeguard the lights and blocks out the UV ray which can make the video seem purple. Easy to find out (unlike Premier). I’ve compared this to the Sony DVD403 camcorder and the GS300 is light many years away. Finest NLE I’ve utilized. I’ve employed the multi RCA SVideo cable and I don’t uncover any difficulties with it. One more point you may possibly want to get unless you have it is Sony Vegas six. . The simple fact that you can transfer utilizing USB helps make it a bonus (there is no qulaity reduction if you go USB or Firewire). Shoot in manual and modify the get down and shutter speed (you have to adjust the shutter 1st). EIS is identified in lower finish camcorders. Why would you buy a camcorder that can develop such high high quality video and then try to run this in through RCA? Absolutely everyone has a DVD player or Xbox or PS2 that can play them, and a blank DVD is 22 cents. Some reviewer complained about the RCA output. Greatest $ one hundred ever spent. The purpose folks get sucky lower light video is simply because they have it on Auto and the image is boosted through the roof to 18Db which adds a lot of noise. Employing the firewire you can create back your edited video on the MiniDv tape. Shooting in manual and adjusting the noise down then brightening up the video in publish with you beloved NLE is the very same way the pros do it. Me personally I just make DVDs. For very low lighting situations the camcorder will not do so very good as some Hi8 camcorders I’ve used. I’ve looked at the RCA and S video good quality and you can tell S video is much better. Good characteristic for archival purposes. Renders super fast, does not crash (like Ulead and Premier). There is no new camcorder on this planet and at this value which can give you much better high quality. This past weekend I’ve shot footage at the NOPI XBOX at MIR in Maryland with a residence created shoulder stabilizer and every person who has noticed it told me that I can make DVDs and market them (it was that great). Optical image stabilization. A single purpose why the GS300 is so a lot greater than the Sony DVD403 in the very same value array is simply because the Sony utilizes one chip. The quantity 1 accessory to get is a UV filter. A large function is OIS. I would suggest acquiring an further battery so you can record far more. Then get a polarizer to make the colors look organic and give it a good contrast. Got this for 0. The 3CCD capture colours and detail like nothing in this price assortment. I suggest creating DVDs or employing S video

. If you happen to be going to do a lot of indoor shooting test into this meticulously. – Manual is one particular of the worst I’ve ever witnessed, requires a number of reads to get via. – Car white balance can be a little slow to kick in, but looks to function effectively otherwise. – Manual concentrate is accomplished with the joystick. Must be, it is a Leica, but these days Leica is throwing their title on a lot of reduced-end (comparatively) buyer cameras and camcorders with varying benefits. Focusing with the joystick is Awful. If not for this I’d give it 5 stars. – I like the joystick control. The lens looks to be incredibly sharp. Tends to make deciding on possibilities really quick. To me this is the most severe disadvantage of this camera. . Panasonic truly goofed right here, this camera requirements a focusing ring like a child needs a mom. Third celebration extended existence batteries are cheap, I advocate obtaining one. You do require to spend some time familiarizing oneself with all the options, but this will be time properly-spent and you only want to do it when. I’m not certain how it compares to other people, but some critiques mention that the Sony model in the very same value range is superior in this regard. – This camera is just too tiny and light to hold steadily. I’ve had it for about a month now, and I can’t think about that there is anything at all out there greater than this and comparably priced. A background in nonetheless photography helped me immensely in comprehension some of the manual functions, but I really feel sorry for individuals who open this manual with no some kind of earlier experience. When buying for a camcorder, you have to comprehend that at this price tag point there are going to be compromises. According to all the reviews, this is one of the best at this level. Overall, I am convinced this camera is a fantastic deal. Right here are my likes and dislikes:The Excellent:- price tag (obviously)- picture good quality outside is exceptional. In great light the image high quality is excellent, so if you happen to be shooting mostly outside this is the one particular for you. – Menus are fairly simple to navigate. – Reasonable battery lifestyle. The only severe flaw is the lack of a focus ring, everything else is just a function of the compromises you have to anticipate in this value variety. The Bad:- Reduced-light efficiency is very good but not great. Gorgeous color and clarity. an exercising in frustration. Some people never, but I am a massive fan. USERS REVIEWS:

I’ve carried out far more investigation on mass-marketed substantial-definition camcorders than any man or woman with a task actually really should. tape vs. Video *and* audio are quite darn excellent if not excellent. &#13A final note/aside on my personal take on the HF10 vs. an HDV 1, but I merely cannot see a distinction when played at normal speed. )&#13I really should have stuck to my gut instincts and bought the HF100 the initial time all around. flash, I made a decision on the HV30, because I was persuaded by arguments about and examples of video high quality, particularly in low-light. After weeks of combing and considering the pros and cons of AVCHD vs. The distinction in sound recordings amongst this flash-primarily based camcorder and comparable motorized machines is, to my ear, both clear and dramatic. . Seems like a minor inconvenience to deal with the two internal memory and removable cards when recording hours of footage prior to transferring/backing-up to a Computer (even though traveling, maybe?). HDV, HDD vs. So if you are sensitive to white noise or if you’re interested in minimizing/eliminating sounds from the recorder, feel tough about the type of camcorder you purchase and what you happen to be willing to tolerate or accommodate in terms of extra gear or post-production. Perhaps an individual can split hairs and demonstrate the “artifacts” present between video recordings of this AVCHD camcorder vs. I’d preferably swap and label cards. But this, of program, is a matter of individual preference and habit I incorporate my thoughts right here in situation any person hadn’t provided this aspect some consideration. Got the HV30 and, indeed, the picture top quality is gorgeous. The sound, although, was a great disappointment. I’d personally rather just handle a single, removable media card. After sending the HV30 back (thanks to Amazon’s exceptional return policy), I bought the HF100 and am basically delighted. the HF100: I enjoy the allure of the black-physique HF10 in terms of aesthetics, but I really locate the dual flash memory characteristic to be a turn-off. Since I’m fond of capturing quiet moments – the subtle sounds of, say, my 4-month-old daughter sleeping – the large-pitch whine of the tape motor present in my recordings with the HV30 proved to be a deal killer. (I am properly conscious of wide variety of solutions to this problem, from external microphones to post-production tactics, but I’d ideally like to steer clear of carrying about extra gear and I only have so considerably time to spend on this hobby – I’ll leave in-depth editing to individuals more devoted, functioning towards diverse ends, and/or with out loved ones commitments

The HDV cameras can also run reside video back to the Computer for editing or webcasting, something you can not do currently with an AVCHD cam. &#13Low light functionality is so-so. Canon does make an extended battery which I plan on purchasing soon. I’m positive this will enhance above time as personal computers and software package get more rapidly, but never count on instant gratification when you’re prepared to bring some video more than to edit. . You will get greater and far more steady quality along with virtually universal editing compatibility. On the Mac side each iMovie ’08 and Final Reduce Pro six acknowledge video from this camera even if I’m just popping the SD card into my USB card reader. People cameras transfer video back to the Pc or Mac more than firewire, a standard that’s been close to for above a decade. Why other producers are removing this function from customer camcorders baffles me since very good audio is such an important element of making good video! Canon also includes a mini hot shoe on the top of the gadget, and there’s currently a mini shotgun mic readily available (Canon 2591B002 DM-100 Directional Stereo Microphone for HF10 and HF100 Camcorders). There’s also a mini-video light that can be turned on but it won’t have area-filling range to it. The inclusion of a mic port along with the multitude of shooting options make this a wonderful selection for novices and enthusiasts alike. I’ve found multiplying the unique video length times two is typically about the length of time it will take to capture with iMovie on my Mac Pro (I have not timed Final Cut’s conversion but but will update this evaluation soon). Individuals searching for the absolute very best quality in a customer camera will want to search at an HDV tape primarily based resolution. I am finding about an hour of video on an eight gig SD card in the highest top quality mode. Flash memory is so cheap appropriate now that investing the added income for the HF10 (with the on board storage) actually is not worth it. &#13If you are coming from the HDV tape-based planet, capturing video from an AVCHD camera takes a little lengthier than you will be used to. All of these are processed at 60i so you are going to need an editor that can eliminate the pulldown for correct 24P. It costs speedily but you’ll only get about an hour or so of recording time. Gets a bit grainy but you can make adjustments to compensate the two in frame price and shutter/aperture settings. If you are serious about producing HD video you might nonetheless want to think about an HDV tape primarily based camcorder like the Canon HV20 or HV30. Following a full weekend playing with the HF100 I am really pleased with my decision. &#13The camera also consists of 3 frame price options: 60i, 30p, and 24p. There are settings for manual white balancing as well. &#13CONNECTIVITY &amp EDITING&#13I am a Mac guy so these of you using Windows will have to comment beneath on your success with it. . &#13In numerous methods the HF100 is not much distinct from its competition. &#13The camera has many video good quality options but you’ll want to pick the highest good quality as it is not on by default. This right after owning a Panasonic SD3 for a brief period final year. Artifacts are minimum but remember that AVCHD is a very compressed video format. &#13VIDEO High quality &amp Alternatives&#13Excellent and consistent with other cameras in its class. &#13BATTERY Life&#13Like every other camera in its class, the incorporated battery is rather lousy. &#13If, nevertheless, you’re in the market for a modest flash based camera look no further. &#13My motivation for deciding on this camera more than the competitors was Canon’s extremely sensible selection to incorporate a common microphone input (and manual audio controls). I invested a very prolonged time researching tiny SD based large def cameras and ended up selecting the Vixia HF100. &#13CONCLUSION&#13I purchased this camera to supplement some of the operate I do shooting HDV video on a ‘prosumer’ Sony HDV camera. It’s about soda can sized (though not as small as the new Panasonic SD9), has no view finder, and records video onto SDHC flash memory. Color quality is rich and probably a little more than-saturated (as most customer cameras are) but there are settings to wind back the saturation a bit (like switching into cinema mode)

I intend to archive all originals on BluRay and downsample the files to make it easier to share, feel YouTube, Windows Media Player, tough disk media players, iPhones, and so on. I have been shooting with SLR’s for the past 25 a long time (all Nikons from the FM2 to the D3) so I am biased towards prints presentation and net sharing. &#136. I’m so used to the intuitive interface of Nikon cameras so I guess I should not be shocked that (just) some of the quirkiness of Canon’s camera interface layout can also be found on their camcorders. I also wish that scrolling by means of the clips is fast as browsing by means of a digicam’s thumbnails. 5x broad angle converter, but I am now hesitating against purchasing the models as they might not do justice. &#134. For what it’s really worth, the unit I got is labeled Produced in Japan. User interface&#13I haven’t examine the manual yet as the simple camcorder stuff is easy. The size is a welcome adjust from the program harassment I get from overzealous mall safety who thinks I’m out to make a speedy buck selling photos of mall scenes and/or architecture everytime I fish out my so-referred to as ‘professional’ DSLR. (Side note: the standard BP809 battery is great for only about 1hr so you greater get an added one particular. OIS&#13Generally performs, you gotta give it a half-second or so to stabilize and the LCD viewfinder is a great way to balance the unit with 2 hands. ” (And at 16:9 1920×1080 resolution at that! I am a geek keep in mind?)&#13I live in a creating nation in Asia in which new gizmos are always late to market and priced 30-50% a lot more so the only way to discover what I want is to store online by specs. &#137. &#133. The on-display menu can be greater but it really is liveable. It has metallic gun metal finish and, though not as aesthetically pleasing as the black HF10, it’s greater-searching than the pics on the web. Sony’s Memory Sticks never fit my world and with Transcend Class 6 16Gb SD cards priced at only , the HF100 is best for my workflow! (I commit ten-16hrs a day in front of a Computer. &#13Before this, my only expertise with video cameras exactly where individuals that I borrowed from friends and loved ones over the years to cover the occasional family occasion – I choose shooting with a even now camera. So it finally hit me that *proper now* is the time to get into recording life’s sweet moments on “tape. . But I concur with the observation that the Commence/Quit and CAMERA/VIDEO RECORD/PLAYBACK switches could have been designed far better. It’s not a hundred% but it really is extremely close. This is my 1st video camera and I am a geek so please pardon me if I get a little technical as I’m the type of guy who retailers just by comparing specs. I shot all day nowadays and no a single even observed. Flash-memory based mostly recording on SD&#13I can not deal with tape nor am I secure with a spinning drive inside a piece of gear that I might drop. Quickly concentrate&#13The focusing performs darn well. )&#132. . Correct HD top quality&#13I nevertheless have to get myself a HDMI cable but the component-out signal on my LCD is crisp and far more than what I expected! To my eye, it is as excellent as the prosumer-level models that I’ve been wanting to get but can’t justify. And this is from a guy who’s spoiled by the fast- and multi-point focusing of pro-degree DSLR’s and lenses.

Read a lot more. The create is excellent, like what we’re utilized to assume from higher-high quality, super-miniaturized merchandise from Japan. Dimension and develop&#13Yep, it’s truly the dimension of soda can and very, very insconspicuous. &#135. ) &#13I’ve made a decision to shoot all my material making use of FX mode and a 16Gb card is good for 2hours really worth of video. I prefer the Sony method wherever a rotating collar representing the diverse modes rings a massive round red button. &#138. I’ve compared and examine every user review of all the accessible models from Sony, JVC, Panasonic, and Canon and the recently-announced and released HF100 confident got every little thing appropriate on paper! I received my Amazon package 2 days ago and I’m happy to report that this tiny gem is Specifically what I desired and expected!&#13These are what I was seeking for and which, happily, I got:&#131. This helps make me a johnny-come-lately into the camcorder planet. &#132008 saw the confluence of our 1st HDTV, Canon’s release of an affordable true HD-resolution camcorder, and inexpensive flash-memory storage. . Output files&#13The files are saved in MTS format and soon after Googling for half an hour, I was able to get a couple of freeware transcoders and converted a 46-2nd 89Mb 1920×1080 clip and downsized it into a 16Mb 848×480 XVid AVI which is gentler on my Mediagate MG-350 hard disk media player. For instance, there are way also several clicks to get a clip deleted. Optics&#13Based on what I see on the LCD Television, they are fantastic! I am a broad-angle shooter so my following buy is a . As soon as you zoom all the way to 12x however, I advocate making use of a tripod esp when shooting for prolonged periods of time (like stage performances).

the sound quality. I now need to have to discover about editing and transferring to disc despite the fact that I intend to use Adobe Premiere for editing. No rapid forward or rewind, even though these are accessible manually on the touch screen – Duh! &#138. The display is very clear and the text and messages are useful. Canon demands to discover from Apple how to make user pleasant interfaces to their items. Possessing Disney’s Electrical Parade recorded in HD and 5. It does not add much weight and it sits flush with the viewfinder. I never ever essential the original battery that I utilised as a backup. &#133. No tapes, disks, or challenging drives to worry about. Of course, and optional battery the BP-819 was a should have since the bundled 1, the BP-808, will not last for any useful shoot. Nevertheless, there is a conflict amongst the Pixela software incorporated on two CDs. First you will need it in vibrant sunlight. &#132. one microphone. I would leave early in the morning and come back right after midnight and watch some of the recorded video clips just before I set it to recharge overnight. The BP-819 battery was more than adequate for my function. Contrary to the CNET review that I watched before getting, you don’t need to have to use the scroll bar on the correct edge. The bottom line: This camcorder produces vivid HD pictures in vibrant light. In the finish I was capable to get most of what I required to do. When connecting the Element video cable, or the RCA cable to your Television, you can not close the camera display. &#134. &#135. &#137. I also bought the optional battery charger and took it with me instead of the energy provide that comes with it. The 5. You want to have handle and that’s what you shell out for. Absolutely commendable. When listening via the earphones, the recorded sound was amazing. It did a great occupation transferring everything. Clear, directional, and complete of specifics. I bought the VIXIA HF S30 Camcorder about a month ago to take with me on a trip to Orlando Disney Planet and Universal Studios. Nevertheless, it extra volume and its rabbit skin cover made the camera look far more like a production kind than a hobbyist one particular. Suggested for confident. Following going back and forth among these two applications, I ended up putting in the VideoBrowser alone which I utilised yesterday to transfer my recorded video clips to my Computer. It does record in extremely dark spots but you need to adjust its settings and do some experimenting. The camera is potent, compact, lightweight, and complete of capabilities. &#13. There is absolutely a tradeoff right here: compactness vs. You just run your finger up or down anyplace on the screen and it will scroll. I invested the two weeks before the trip trying to discover how to use this camcorder. Right here is a rundown from my experience:&#131. 1 microphone was exciting to have and extra dimensions to the recorded sound. My total investment was about ,300 for this package which is a lot. Placing the cost aside, I am pleased with this obtain and I assume I got what I was hunting for. I have been buying canon cameras and camcorders for a long time and they all come with thick manuals (211 pages) in small print and a ton of guidelines. 1 of the finest attributes of the camera is the viewfinder. Far more importantly, I utilized it when recording in dark areas this kind of as in theaters when you never want your camera to be the only supply of light in a space. &#136. Of program, you could set the camera to auto mode and it would take care of itself, but that’s not what you want to do with this camera. When I tried to set up the Transfer Utility, I got a message saying you already have VideoBrowser installed and you want to uninstall it to continue. 1 surround sound is worth all the investment. I loaded it with two x 32GB SD cards and the optional five. The bundled software program incorporates useful resources. This remote handle has really restricted playback functions: Perform and Pause only. The touch display is great. I guess this is due to the fact the remote control sensor is on the screen. The pictures are vivid and the screen will be your reference most of the time except in vivid daylight

. &#13So, say you’re attempting to record small Timmy slugging a ball into the outfield, but he keeps swinging and missing. Two of my preferred issues about this camcorder:&#131. More than and over and over. The camera begins the recording with the three second buffer it really is been storing. It has a mode that lets your start off recording 3 seconds prior to you hit the record button. But as soon as you’ve done that, any time you want to send a photograph or video to Facebook or YouTube (or just to your computer) you just a have to push a button, and the camera not only transfers the picked media from internal memory or slot 1 to the Eye-Fi card, it also transcodes your hi-def video into a a lot more YouTube-friendly format for more quickly transfer. &#13Stop digging for cables or swapping memory cards! Well, ok, this function calls for that you purchase an Eye-Fi card and pop it into the second memory slot. No much more digging by way of tons of video to come across the second you had been making an attempt to capture. &#132. &#13The picture good quality is, of course, amazing, but that’s to be anticipated. &#13The image stabilization also appears amazing to me, but this is the initial camcorder I’ve had with that function, so I am not sure how special it is. Just keep the camera on him till he hits the ball, then hit record. It can upload footage and photos wirelessly. &#13If you acquire this (or any camera really worth a lot more than fifty bucks) get by yourself a filter to shield the lens, and a lens cap to defend the filter. This ought to be typical expertise, but apparently it is not. )&#13The menus can seem a small confusing at very first, as some items are rather effectively hidden, and the touch display is resistive rather than capacitive, so it takes a bit a lot more stress than an iPhone, but these are factors you get utilized to rather speedily. (I’ve always been an ‘everything on manual’ type

&#13They’re pricey, but I also suggest a single of the lengthier-lifestyle batteries for the camera unless you know you need significantly less than 1 hour of video on each and every shoot. &#13All in all, I’m quite pleased, and if I had it to do above, I’d go correct back to this very identical camera. I’ve shot about six hrs of video so far, and I am very pleased. A bit on the costly side (for me), but this camera truly delivers. I use this camera for net videography, and the quality of the HD video it creates speaks nicely for the camera’s optics and electonics. That is the principal reason I bought it as an alternative of a much less-high-priced, purely consumer-grade camera. The camera is light, tiny, and transportable — great for ‘field work’ covering public gatherings. It’s tough to envision undertaking considerably better. &#13I recommend an external microphone for any &amp all interviewing perform, and this camera will accomodate one via its “mic” jack.

I’ve employed increased-end ProSumer camcorders for a although and almost every other generation of video camcorder given that 1980. I not too long ago utilised a Sony HC3 HDV handheld but gave that to my daughter when I got this HV30.&#13

The HV30 has a fantastic picture and all that. So I believe I will focus on what’s either truly cool, or a bit off-placing for a purchaser.&#13

Actually Cool:&#13
Video good quality is the greatest you can uncover on today’s one-chip HDV camera. Some 3-chip cameras have a greater color depth but several three-chip cameras in fact have a worse image. They did a great occupation.&#13

It plays other Canon HDV tape. I own and use a XH A1 three-CCD canon HDV digital camera and the HV30 plays its tapes even far better than the XHA1 appears to. That is great simply because I can save the A1′s guts for a handful of much more many years.&#13

It has virtually every output port you could wish for (nowadays). HDMI, Component (yes Component!), Composite, USB and Firewire. Its really full.&#13

It worked with Apple FinalCut Pro without having any problems. I cannot even get he XHA1 to work with it without having screwing close to with it for a whilst.&#13

It has a mic input jack which Podcasters enjoy, but I and other have been acquiring trouble with it. I feel Canon did not make a basic mic jack but some type of phantom powered mic this or that, which hobbyist would not really use. So to make it operate, and this is the tip, you have to go into the menu and turn on an choice, then go into a diverse menu and modify the acquire and/or volume. Oops, possibly this really should be a “not so cool” item.&#13

The Not so Cool.&#13

The ergonomics are poor. My hand doesn’t experience comfortable holding it no matter how I modify the hand strap. I’ve in no way had this situation with any other digital camera. &#13

The Record start/cease button is in the incorrect place. They put their goofy “joy stick” appropriate in which a person’s thumb falls while holding the camera, so you happen to be instinctively pushing on the joystick instead of the start/stop button whilst filming. The worse part, the Joystick is actually crap as an interface element.&#13

Noisy digital camera. The camera makes noise when you move it (shake it) it tends to make noise when you zoom and it makes a ton of noise when you insert or eject a tape. &#13

Poor image when filming movement. If you happen to be filming a scene and you move the digital camera, you are going to get streaking of the picture. Why? I feel/assume its due to the fact in contrast to Canon’s fantastic D-SLR cameras in very low light, their video gear does not have the reduce ISO (reduced light) capability that Sony’s or everyone else has. Not positive why, but it looks to be a constant theme with Canon. Thankfully it has a built-in light valuable for those birthday parties but not significantly else. &#13

The Bottom Line&#13

For the beneath 0 it costs, its really worth it if you are filming your vacations, holidays, birthdays and whatnot. &#13

If you happen to be a podcaster and want a thing with every single connection acknowledged to man, its much more than really worth it for the HDMI and mic jacks alone.&#13

If you want you could afford the Canon XH A1 or better and want practically as great a image, this is the camera for you.&#13

If you simply want a tape drive for your XH A1, this is really more affordable than a commercial CANON HDV tape drive. &#13

The bottom, bottom line is Sony had lost its way and CANON’s HV30 is the present champ in the hand-held HDV camcorder race. I like sony better, but I don’t like finding nickeled and dimed to death. You buy the Canon HV30 and you are going to be pleased with the final results.

I rate the image good quality, colour good quality, reduced-light capability, white balance all exceptional. The zoom manage is a tiny close for my fingers and I discovered myself holding the camera less firmly (ie with the suggestions of my fingers rather than my complete hand) which would be wearisome on a extended shoot, but tripods are nevertheless the greatest way to shoot video for constant photos. On the other hand the anti-vibration correction would seem to support a lot. &#13

The total package is great, not excellent and includes a battery with a nice make contact with protector that does not look like it will fall off (unlike the protector plate on the Elura and Optura that has to be taped on simply because it is so loose.) The plate keeps the battery from discharging on the keys in your pocket or bag. It also incorporates a charger which will also operate the camera with out the battery, which is extremely handy. This is only good, because it will not charge the battery unless of course it is in the camera, so you can’t charge while shooting with an additional battery.&#13

The package also includes a remote manage (see over) that frustrated me the initial time I utilized it and looks to be of marginal utility. Even so, all of the minor troubles with the package can be remedied with an add-on accessory. The camera is what does the perform and it is excellent.&#13

I’ve had this camcorder only one particular week. It was a active week with kids graduation and parties and night club rock concerts on the video agenda but I discovered a lot buying for this camera and using it all week, so possibly my story will aid you.&#13

First, why miniDV rather than flash, difficult disk or dvd? I previously have two mini dv cameras, a Canon Optura and an Elura. These have provided me excellent service and images that have been the envy of my Sony, Samsung, and Panasonic-owning friends. The only brand I compare to Canon is Sony (for equivalent client devices). I rejected the flash and DVD designs because the recording time is also short. DVD, in specific, is a rip-off with just 15 minutes for a $ ten disk. &#13

This sort of quick recording time is Okay if what you want is to capture one or 2 minutes of magic moments and have them immediately available to place in a player. Personally I uncover the tape just as great for instant replay on the developed-in video screen. It takes a couple minutes lengthier to rewind the tape. &#13

The difficult drive models have a recording time advantage that initially attracted me, but the transfer problem is what created me make a decision to keep with a minidv. Eventually all video has to be transfered to yet another medium to be utilised and archived. I have been transfering my minidv tapes to personal computer hard drives and dvd for a long time. &#13

Transfer is a tediuos, time-eating method that has caused me to devote a lot more upgrading my personal computer and computer software than I spent on the cameras. Yes, I can make DVDs with my video I can make YouTube videos and I can put my personal video stuff on my iPod and Zune. But it takes a lot of time to get the outcomes I want.&#13

Why tape? It really is cheap and handy. Video requires a lot of disk area to retailer the authentic and then to edit and render into other formats. I acquire the low cost tapes but I only record them when. I can carry 2 or three which give me 2 or 3 hours recording time. The true restraint is the batteries. Once I have the picture on tape I do not erase it. I can play it quickly if I want to, but the ultimate objective is to transfer it to tough disk for editing and archiving. The true godsend is the modern plethora of cheap 500 GB (now 750 and soon 1TB) external USB tough drives. The transfer time is a chore so is the indexing. &#13

Tape is patient. I can do it on my schedule. With a difficult disk, it can get complete at a time that is inconvenient to transfer but I need to have to do some a lot more shooting. Then I would have to think about the dreaded DELETE of something I shot. With tape I can postphone transfering and editing for months with no impairing my digital camera readiness. Right after I transfer, I even now have the tape.&#13

I deemed the Sony HDR-HC9 and the older Canon HV20 vs. the Canon HV30. I was tempted by the 6MP in the Sony and also by the low costs on the HV20. I saw a deal on an HV20 for 0 but it was gone before I created up my mind to settle for it. Eventually I was hunting at 9 for the Sony or 1 for the Canon. The HV30 had 30p mode and the 8 savings provided a price range for extra batteries and other goodies.&#13

So am I pleased? Yes.&#13

My wife used it at my kids’ graduation. Best colour and detail, oohs and ahs from everybody. My wife just makes use of automatic mode with the lcd screen hanging out. I took some mobile shots in my vehicle, one-handed through the…

I’ve had the HV30 for about one week now, and so far I think it’s excellent.&#13
I previously utilised the Sony TRV38, an additional quite capable camcorder. The HV30 comes in a slick, black color and is slightly smaller sized than my Sony TRV38.&#13

I have 3 young children, so I take tons of video mostly indoors. The HV30 has very very good reduced light capability. There’s some grain in the darker movies, and the shutter speed also slows (you can see the stuttering motion in the video when taking in really reduced light). However, you can nonetheless see faces obviously. A single cool thing I like about this camera is that it has a manual controlled LED light that can add about three feet of light when it really is also dark. Sony has that lux Evening Shot that operates in comprehensive darkness, but the colours alter to green and black and tends to make the eyes search scary. I choose the LED light characteristic on the HV30 more than Sony’s Night Shot.&#13

You can decide on from 5 distinct shooting modes:&#13
one. DV (normal)&#13
2. DV (wide screen)&#13
3. HDV (high definition – broad screen by default)&#13
4. HDV 24P (cinema mode)&#13
5. HDV 30P (progressive mode)&#13

Despite the fact that I do not have a high definition Tv yet, the colours in each mode looked wonderful on my typical Tv. The 24P and 30P modes give the video a “movie search and really feel” (as a result the name cinema mode), and this is cool just to have. I appear forward to shooting some thing all in 24P or 30P and showing the DVD to household/pals. I’m confident they’ll be amazed that my house videos do not “appear” like home movies…..and this is all due to the camcorder modes.&#13

You can take images employing the HV30 (saves onto mini SD card). You can use the camcorder as a stand-alone digital camera (3 megapixels), and there is even a flash on the camcorder for the digital camera. You can also take even now images whilst you’re recording video. I use this to take images whilst recording only since it really is a nice tiny additional thing to have. The photographs are not all that excellent but not terrible either. It is definitely a bonus that the two video and nonetheless photographs are constructed into this one particular camera. I would still recommend a committed digital camera to take greater top quality nevertheless photographs.&#13

I backup all my videos to DVD due to the fact it’s less complicated to watch that way. I favor the miniDV tapes since it shops “pure” video and information like the time and date. I just started out doing a little video editing making use of Sony Vegas computer software….and that seems to be a good computer software package. The final video on the resulting DVD appears fantastic.&#13

I thought I would stick with Sony goods, but so far I am enjoying the Canon HV30 and have no regrets.&#13

I will most likely be adding a lot more to this evaluation as I use the camera much more.&#13

Update April 7, 2008&#13
Nevertheless liking the camcorder because of the 24P and 30P modes. You can truly see that big difference in the photos compared to regular mode. Your video editing computer software should assistance HDV (substantial definition video) in order for you to edit any high definition stuff. Sony Vegas Film Studio doesn’t have it, but the Vegas Film Studio Platinum edition DOES have it. Make positive to get the appropriate software package if you are going to do editing.&#13

I noticed that the sound is a tiny soft. Maybe there is a setting for this, but an additional possible purpose is that the Canon’s HV30′s microphones are on the top rated of the camcorder facing up compared the my Sony TRV38′s microphones on the front facing forward. This does not bother me also considerably.&#13

There’s an automatic lens cap which helps make safeguarding the lens very convenient. No a lot more fussing with a lens cap or possessing it dangle in your videos.&#13

The package does not consist of a neck strap…you would think Canon would throw in a strap for a 0 camcorder. I bought a standard Canon strap at a regional store for . I believe this is worth to have to preserve the camcorder safe.&#13

The battery is a cheap a single and keeps a charge for about an hour or significantly less. Given that a miniDV tape is 1 hour, it would be prudent to get a better battery just to be safe and sound. Canon helps make an extended battery for about .

I’ve carried out far more research on mass-marketed higher-definition camcorders than any person with a work truly should. Following weeks of combing and contemplating the pros and cons of AVCHD vs. HDV, HDD vs. tape vs. flash, I decided on the HV30, considering that I was persuaded by arguments about and examples of video good quality, specifically in reduced-light. Got the HV30 and, indeed, the picture good quality is gorgeous. The sound, even though, was a wonderful disappointment. Because I am fond of capturing quiet moments – the subtle sounds of, say, my four-month-old daughter sleeping – the substantial-pitch whine of the tape motor present in my recordings with the HV30 proved to be a deal killer. (I am effectively conscious of broad array of solutions to this difficulty, from external microphones to post-production techniques, but I’d ideally like to stay away from carrying all around further devices and I only have so a lot time to invest on this hobby – I will leave in-depth editing to these far more committed, working towards diverse ends, and/or with out family commitments.)&#13

I must have stuck to my gut instincts and bought the HF100 the 1st time all around. After sending the HV30 back (thanks to Amazon’s superb return policy), I bought the HF100 and am basically delighted. Video *and* audio are fairly darn excellent if not exceptional. Maybe a person can split hairs and demonstrate the “artifacts” present between video recordings of this AVCHD camcorder vs. an HDV one, but I just cannot see a big difference when played at typical speed. The distinction in sound recordings amongst this flash-based camcorder and comparable motorized machines is, to my ear, the two obvious and dramatic. So if you happen to be delicate to white noise or if you happen to be interested in minimizing/eliminating sounds from the recorder, believe tough about the type of camcorder you purchase and what you happen to be willing to tolerate or accommodate in terms of added gear or post-production.&#13

A final note/aside on my very own take on the HF10 vs. the HF100: I enjoy the allure of the black-physique HF10 in terms of aesthetics, but I really find the dual flash memory characteristic to be a turn-off. I’d personally rather just handle a single, removable media card. Looks like a small inconvenience to deal with each internal memory and removable cards when recording hrs of footage before transferring/backing-up to a Computer (whilst traveling, possibly?). I’d preferably swap and label cards. But this, of program, is a matter of person preference and habit I incorporate my thoughts right here in case anyone hadn’t given this aspect some consideration.

Regular Guy

I spent a extremely extended time studying little SD based mostly higher def cameras and ended up picking the Vixia HF100. This right after owning a Panasonic SD3 for a brief period final year. Soon after a complete weekend playing with the HF100 I am really pleased with my determination. &#13

My enthusiasm for deciding on this digital camera more than the competitors was Canon’s very smart determination to include a common microphone input (and manual audio controls). Why other manufacturers are removing this attribute from customer camcorders baffles me since excellent audio is such an crucial part of creating good video! Canon also includes a mini hot shoe on the best of the device, and there is previously a mini shotgun mic offered (Canon 2591B002 DM-100 Directional Stereo Microphone for HF10 and HF100 Camcorders).&#13

In several ways the HF100 is not a lot distinct from its competitors. It really is about soda can sized (despite the fact that not as tiny as the new Panasonic SD9), has no view finder, and records video onto SDHC flash memory. Flash memory is so low-cost proper now that spending the added income for the HF10 (with the on board storage) actually is not worth it. &#13

VIDEO Top quality &amp Options&#13
Outstanding and steady with other cameras in its class. Color high quality is wealthy and possibly a little over-saturated (as most client cameras are) but there are settings to wind back the saturation a bit (like switching into cinema mode). Artifacts are minimal but bear in mind that AVCHD is a highly compressed video format. Individuals looking for the absolute best quality in a buyer camera will want to look at an HDV tape based resolution. There are settings for manual white balancing as well. &#13

Low light efficiency is so-so.. Gets a bit grainy but you can make adjustments to compensate both in frame rate and shutter/aperture settings. There’s also a mini-video light that can be turned on but it will not have room-filling array to it. &#13

The camera has many video top quality options but you’ll want to decide on the highest high quality as it’s not on by default. I am getting about an hour of video on an 8 gig SD card in the highest top quality mode. &#13

The digital camera also includes three frame rate choices: 60i, 30p, and 24p. All of these are processed at 60i so you will want an editor that can get rid of the pulldown for genuine 24P. &#13

BATTERY Lifestyle&#13
Like every single other digital camera in its class, the incorporated battery is pretty lousy. It costs speedily but you’ll only get about an hour or so of recording time. Canon does make an extended battery which I strategy on purchasing soon. &#13

CONNECTIVITY &amp EDITING&#13
I am a Mac guy so those of you using Windows will have to comment under on your accomplishment with it. On the Mac side the two iMovie ’08 and Final Reduce Pro 6 identify video from this camera even if I am just popping the SD card into my USB card reader. &#13

If you are coming from the HDV tape-based globe, capturing video from an AVCHD camera requires a little lengthier than you are going to be employed to. I’ve found multiplying the authentic video length occasions two is usually about the length of time it takes to capture with iMovie on my Mac Pro (I have not timed Final Cut’s conversion but but will update this assessment quickly). I’m confident this will increase more than time as computer systems and software program get more quickly, but don’t anticipate immediate gratification when you’re prepared to bring some video more than to edit. &#13

CONCLUSION&#13
I bought this digital camera to supplement some of the function I do shooting HDV video on a ‘prosumer’ Sony HDV digital camera. If you happen to be significant about making HD video you may well nonetheless want to consider an HDV tape based camcorder like the Canon HV20 or HV30. You’ll get far better and more steady good quality along with almost universal editing compatibility. Those cameras transfer video back to the Pc or Mac above firewire, a normal that’s been around for above a decade. The HDV cameras can also run live video back to the Computer for editing or webcasting, one thing you cannot do presently with an AVCHD cam. &#13

If, however, you’re in the industry for a tiny flash based camera look no more. The inclusion of a mic port along with the multitude of shooting options make this a wonderful alternative for beginners and fanatics alike.

This is my 1st video digital camera and I am a geek so please pardon me if I get a small technical as I am the sort of guy who shops just by comparing specs.&#13

Prior to this, my only knowledge with video cameras exactly where those that I borrowed from close friends and family members above the many years to cover the occasional family members event – I choose shooting with a even now camera. I have been shooting with SLR’s for the previous 25 many years (all Nikons from the FM2 to the D3) so I am biased towards prints presentation and web sharing. This can make me a johnny-come-recently into the camcorder planet.&#13

2008 saw the confluence of our 1st HDTV, Canon’s release of an inexpensive genuine HD-resolution camcorder, and inexpensive flash-memory storage. So it eventually hit me that *proper now* is the time to get into recording life’s sweet moments on “tape.” (And at 16:9 1920×1080 resolution at that! I’m a geek bear in mind?)&#13

I reside in a developing nation in Asia in which new gizmos are always late to marketplace and priced 30-50% a lot more so the only way to discover what I want is to store online by specs. I’ve compared and read each and every user review of all the accessible models from Sony, JVC, Panasonic, and Canon and the lately-announced and released HF100 confident got almost everything correct on paper! I received my Amazon package 2 days ago and I’m content to report that this small gem is Exactly what I wished and expected!&#13

These are what I was looking for and which, happily, I got:&#13

one. Flash-memory based mostly recording on SD&#13
I can not deal with tape nor am I at ease with a spinning drive inside a piece of devices that I may drop. Sony’s Memory Sticks don’t fit my planet and with Transcend Class 6 16Gb SD cards priced at only , the HF100 is ideal for my workflow! (I devote 10-16hrs a day in front of a Pc.) &#13

I’ve made the decision to shoot all my materials using FX mode and a 16Gb card is great for 2hours really worth of video. (Side note: the standard BP809 battery is excellent for only about 1hr so you far better get an additional a single.)&#13

2. True HD quality&#13
I still have to get myself a HDMI cable but the component-out signal on my LCD is crisp and more than what I anticipated! To my eye, it’s as good as the prosumer-level designs that I’ve been wanting to get but can’t justify.&#13

three. Quick concentrate&#13
The focusing operates darn properly. It really is not one hundred% but it really is extremely near. And this is from a guy who’s spoiled by the quickly- and multi-point focusing of pro-level DSLR’s and lenses.&#13

four. OIS&#13
Typically operates, you gotta give it a half-2nd or so to stabilize and the LCD viewfinder is a fantastic way to balance the unit with two hands. As soon as you zoom all the way to 12x even though, I advocate making use of a tripod esp when shooting for prolonged periods of time (like stage performances).&#13

5. Output files&#13
The files are saved in MTS format and right after Googling for half an hour, I was ready to download a couple of freeware transcoders and converted a 46-2nd 89Mb 1920×1080 clip and downsized it into a 16Mb 848×480 XVid AVI which is gentler on my Mediagate MG-350 hard disk media player. I intend to archive all originals on BluRay and downsample the files to make it simpler to share, think YouTube, Windows Media Player, hard disk media gamers, iPhones, etc… &#13

6. Size and construct&#13
Yep, it is truly the dimension of soda can and very, extremely insconspicuous. It has metallic gun metal finish and, though not as aesthetically pleasing as the black HF10, it really is much better-searching than the pics on the internet. The size is a welcome adjust from the program harassment I get from overzealous mall security who thinks I am out to make a rapid buck promoting photos of mall scenes and/or architecture everytime I fish out my so-known as ‘professional’ DSLR. I shot all day nowadays and no one particular even noticed. The construct is best, like what we’re employed to assume from higher-good quality, super-miniaturized goods from Japan. For what it really is really worth, the unit I got is labeled Created in Japan.&#13

7. Consumer interface&#13
I have not read the manual nevertheless as the basic camcorder things is effortless. But I concur with the observation that the Begin/Stop and Digital camera/VIDEO RECORD/PLAYBACK switches could have been created better. I choose the Sony method where a rotating collar representing the distinct modes rings a large round red button. The on-screen menu can be much better but it’s liveable. I’m so utilized to the intuitive interface of Nikon cameras so I guess I should not be surprised that (just) some of the quirkiness of Canon’s camera interface design can also be discovered on their camcorders. For example, there are way too several clicks to get a clip deleted. I also want that scrolling through the clips is quick as browsing by means of a digicam’s thumbnails.&#13

8. Optics&#13
Primarily based on what I see on the LCD Tv, they’re wonderful! I’m a wide-angle shooter so my next buy is a .5x broad angle converter, but I am now hesitating against acquiring the models as they might not do justice…

I had the award-winning HDV (tape-primarily based) HV20 prior to this, and the HF10 is almost indistinguishable in terms of image good quality. Provided the dramatic distinction in image data in between an HDV image and an AVC image, that means this is one particular heck of a camcorder. I have tried out other AVC camcorders and have been truly disappointed. Not so here, and I purchased this a single. It has 24p and 30p recording, in addition to 60i. (Do not be confused by Canon’s nomenclature, it is true 24p, just recorded in interlaced 60i.) The cinema mode has a bit of a wash-out effect on colours. The camcorder is surprisingly little. Power save mode is excellent, and is practically instantaneously on when the LCD display is opened. One particular warning about AVC in common, if you don’t have a fast personal computer, it will grind it to a halt. I have a quad-core with 4 gig RAM and editing is fine, but I wouldn’t want to use an old pc. Sony Vegas works great with the files. Wish the camcorder instantly saved to the SDHC card when the internal storage was total. Otherwise, this is the greatest believed out camcorder because my DVX-100. Great to occasionally see consumer items worth their expense.

This is a marvelous camcorder. Rather than repeat what some of the other testimonials have mentioned, I thought I’d explain how to import video on the Mac, simply because it wasn’t clear to me. 1st, you ought to have an Intel based mostly Mac operating Mac OS X ten.five (Leopard). You also require iMovie ’08, which comes with new Macs. If you are running an older version of Mac OS X (this kind of as Tiger) or have an older version of iMovie, or have a PowerPC based mostly Mac, you will not be capable to import video from this camera.&#13

To import video, attach the camcorder to the Mac with the USB cable that’s integrated with the camcorder. Make certain you plug your camcorder into AC power, operating from the battery will not operate. Set the mode dial on the camera to video playback (the small blue camcorder icon). Turn on the camcorder. Now open the LCD show on the camcorder, and you will see it is asking you a question: use the joystick to choose “pc” for wherever you happen to be connecting the USB cable. I spent some time the very first time I needed to import wondering why iMovie could not see the camcorder until I lastly attempted opening the LCD display and seen this query. Once you have produced this alternative, iMovie will detect the camcorder and will be ready to import video, and you can do the rest from iMovie.

This is a amazing camera but folks need to have to have a lot more realistic expectations of what to expect from AVCHD. It is a very compressed format so making use of this camera in low-light situations is going to produce rather “grainy” results. In great lighting AVCHD output from this camera can generate some really fantastic hunting results in HD but do not kid yourself into considering you are going to get expert HDTV quality. This is a point-and-shoot.&#13

I really like the camera, particularly how rapidly it focuses in good light, so I’m going to concentrate on what some of the other reviewers mentioned to correct some misconceptions.&#13

I use each Macs and Computer and I have to inform you that you that PCs suck for AVCHD – you will waste a lot of time and pull your hair out. I’m confident Pc video software package vendors will handle this at some point, but seriously folks if you want to do this the easy way get an Intel-primarily based Mac (caveat: only Intel based machines employing Leopard support AVCHD) and use both iMovie or Final Cut Express four. Both of these applications (iMovie 08 and FCE4) just Adore this camera (and two other Sony AVCHD cameras I’ve attempted as effectively) and they operate like a charm. Video creating has by no means been this easy. FCE4 lets you mix AVHCD, HDV and SD video on the very same timeline and save in what ever format you want so it is really worth the 0 if you want to do that or have much more exacting management more than your videos. It is basically a (lightly) stripped-down version of Apple’s outstanding expert video computer software (Final Cut Pro) and it is extremely very good. For most property videos iMovie 08 (which comes in iLife 08) will be just fine. &#13

I’ve had no dilemma transferring the motion pictures immediately from the camera but, as mentioned earlier, you do require to have the camera plugged into the AC to do it. You can avoid plugging the camera into your Mac to transfer the files if you happen to be only recording on SDHC cards, rather than internal memory on the HF10, but it operates just fine. For this explanation I would advocate acquiring the HF100 (more than the HF10) and getting an extra 16Gb memory card or two. You will conserve money that way and have much more flexibility. I bought the HF10 simply because I had to have it the up coming day and, at the time, the HF100s had been delayed a bit. Transcend’s outstanding 16Gb SDHC Class 6 card comes with a nifty small card reader for only .98 right here on Amazon, you can get two of them for much less than the 0 big difference in value between the HF10 and HF100 so you are going to have 32gb to operate with as a substitute of 16gb for less money. I do not mind having the internal memory as a backup but you spend far more than it is really worth for it. &#13

The video camera is just acting like a USB reader when you connect it to your Mac anyway – it is the file layouts that the software package recognizes. When study in and converted to Apple Intermediate Codec at 1920×1080 they will balloon in dimension. If you want to retailer the raw video in a much more compressed way you can simply copy the root directory of the card to another directory and copy it back yet again later. If you are working with AVCHD you require to get the greatest tough drives you can afford. 60 minutes of video will use up some thing like 50Gb of storage on your Mac when converted to 1920×1080. If you just want excellent hunting home video to display on your HDTV, but do not want to go broke on challenging drives, Apple delivers to import the motion pictures at a slightly lower resolution (960×540) which requires up a LOT less room with extremely little drop in good quality. I have been generating property movies and exhibiting them on an Apple Tv at that resolution and they appear beautiful. The good quality difference between that resolution and complete HD isn’t that huge of a deal. &#13

If want to try out to get really specialist-good quality video you ought to steer clear of AVCHD cameras and stick to the HDV format concentrating on cameras with larger sensors. But this is wonderful camera for HD home videos at a fantastic cost. &#13

The user interface on this camera is slow and clunky. Sony’s AVCHD cameras have a better interface (utilizing a touch display) but you can even now watch back the videos (which is the primary factor you will do) and it beats the heck out of a tape camera. I wish they had added a dial or button set for modify exposure and/or backlighting handle on the camera. The joystick operates surprisingly nicely for this nevertheless in brilliant light the screen gets washed out adequate that it is hard to tell if your exposure is truly that wonderful or not. This is exactly where a viewfinder would really assist. But these are minor nits because the camera does a excellent occupation at exposure handle on its very own. &#13

As I mentioned earlier this is a quite compact point-and-shoot camera that shoots HD video and for that it really is superb.

I bought the VIXIA HF S30 Camcorder about a month ago to take with me on a trip to Orlando Disney Globe and Universal Studios. I loaded it with 2 x 32GB SD cards and the optional 5.1 microphone. I also bought the optional battery charger and took it with me rather of the energy supply that comes with it. Of course, and optional battery the BP-819 was a should have since the bundled a single, the BP-808, won’t last for any helpful shoot. My total investment was about ,300 for this package which is a great deal. Placing the price aside, I am happy with this purchase and I feel I got what I was hunting for. Here is a rundown from my expertise:&#13
1.Canon needs to find out from Apple how to make user friendly interfaces to their items. I have been getting canon cameras and camcorders for a lengthy time and they all come with thick manuals (211 pages) in little print and a ton of directions. I spent the two weeks just before the trip trying to understand how to use this camcorder. In the finish I was ready to get most of what I essential to do. Of course, you could set the camera to car mode and it would take care of itself, but that is not what you want to do with this camera. You want to have management and that is what you spend for. &#13
2.The touch screen is excellent. Contrary to the CNET assessment that I watched ahead of acquiring, you do not need to have to use the scroll bar on the appropriate edge. You just run your finger up or down anyplace on the screen and it will scroll. The display is quite clear and the text and messages are helpful. The photos are vivid and the display will be your reference most of the time except in brilliant daylight. &#13
3.One of the best functions of the camera is the viewfinder. Initial you will need to have it in vivid sunlight. A lot more importantly, I utilised it when recording in dark places this kind of as in theaters when you do not want your camera to be the only source of light in a area. &#13
4.The BP-819 battery was far more than enough for my goal. I would leave early in the morning and come back after midnight and watch some of the recorded videos just before I set it to recharge overnight. I never ever essential the authentic battery that I utilised as a backup. It doesn’t add much weight and it sits flush with the viewfinder. Suggested for sure. &#13
five. The five.1 microphone was entertaining to have and extra dimensions to the recorded sound. Nevertheless, it extra volume and its rabbit skin cover manufactured the camera appear more like a manufacturing sort than a hobbyist a single. When listening by way of the earphones, the recorded sound was remarkable. Clear, directional, and full of particulars. There is absolutely a tradeoff right here: compactness vs. the sound good quality. &#13
6.The bundled software program includes helpful tools. Nevertheless, there is a conflict in between the Pixela software program included on two CDs. When I attempted to set up the Transfer Utility, I got a message saying you currently have VideoBrowser installed and you want to uninstall it to continue. Following going back and forth between these two applications, I ended up installing the VideoBrowser alone which I employed yesterday to transfer my recorded videos to my Pc. It did a very good work transferring every thing. I now require to learn about editing and transferring to disc even though I intend to use Adobe Premiere for editing. &#13
7.When connecting the Component video cable, or the RCA cable to your Tv, you can not close the camera display. I guess this is simply because the remote management sensor is on the display. This remote manage has really limited playback functions: Play and Pause only. No quickly forward or rewind, though these are offered manually on the touch display – Duh! &#13
8.The bottom line: This camcorder generates vivid HD pictures in vivid light. It does record in extremely dark places but you need to have to adjust its settings and do some experimenting. Possessing Disney’s Electrical Parade recorded in HD and 5.1 surround sound is really worth all the investment. The camera is potent, compact, lightweight, and full of capabilities. No tapes, disks, or hard drives to worry about. Totally commendable.&#13

Two of my favorite items about this camcorder:&#13

1. It has a mode that lets your start recording 3 seconds ahead of you hit the record button. &#13

So, say you’re trying to record tiny Timmy slugging a ball into the outfield, but he keeps swinging and missing. Above and over and more than. Just preserve the camera on him until finally he hits the ball, then hit record. The camera begins the recording with the three second buffer it is been storing. No a lot more digging by means of tons of video to locate the second you were trying to capture.&#13

two. It can upload footage and pictures wirelessly. &#13

Cease digging for cables or swapping memory cards! Nicely, ok, this attribute calls for that you acquire an Eye-Fi card and pop it into the second memory slot. But once you’ve completed that, any time you want to send a photo or video to Facebook or YouTube (or just to your pc) you just a have to push a button, and the camera not only transfers the selected media from internal memory or slot 1 to the Eye-Fi card, it also transcodes your hi-def video into a far more YouTube-friendly format for quicker transfer.&#13

The image stabilization also looks remarkable to me, but this is the initial camcorder I’ve had with that characteristic, so I’m not certain how exclusive it is. (I’ve always been an ‘everything on manual’ type.)&#13

The menus can seem a tiny confusing at initial, as some things are rather nicely hidden, and the touch screen is resistive rather than capacitive, so it requires a bit far more pressure than an iPhone, but these are issues you get employed to fairly speedily.&#13

The image high quality is, of course, remarkable, but that is to be anticipated.&#13

If you acquire this (or any camera worth a lot more than fifty bucks) purchase your self a filter to defend the lens, and a lens cap to protect the filter. This ought to be widespread information, but apparently it is not.

A bit on the costly side (for me), but this camera genuinely delivers. It’s hard to imagine doing a lot better. I use this camera for net videography, and the good quality of the HD video it generates speaks nicely for the camera’s optics and electonics. I’ve shot about six hours of video so far, and I am quite pleased.&#13

I suggest an external microphone for any &amp all interviewing work, and this camera will accomodate one by way of its “mic” jack. That’s the primary purpose I purchased it as a substitute of a much less-expensive, purely consumer-grade camera. The camera is light, small, and transportable — excellent for ‘field work’ covering public gatherings.&#13

They are pricey, but I also advocate one of the longer-life batteries for the camera unless of course you know you want less than 1 hour of video on every shoot.&#13

All in all, I’m extremely pleased, and if I had it to do over, I’d go proper back to this extremely exact same camera.
