I purchased this because it was a *reasonably priced*, *sleek looking* Hybrid camcorder, in which I can record my movies on a SD card or a DVD.

So far, I attempted a couple test video clips utilizing my SD card and they turned out fairly excellent, no complains on sound/video high quality. Have not tried yet burning on the mini-DVD.

A **big disappointment** for me was the battery pack loosing power in a fully power off state. I charged it fully (till it showed green light), then disconnected the charger, the light stays green, switches to orange in some time and I left it overnight and in the morning– the battery is completely drained , no energy to even open the dvd tray

So, i study up the manual thinking I did a thing wrong. And this is what they have in the manual (p.21) ” Eliminate the battery from the camcorder when it is not in use. Even when the energy is switched off, the battery pack will even now discharge if it is left attached to the camcorder “

Which electronic device looses total power overnight, when in Off state? I suggest even if I take the camcorder out for a day’s shooting, at every interval i am anticipated to eliminate the battery, else it will die ? how am i suppose to use this as a portable camcorder ? come on Samsung, this is ridiculous

** UPDATE 12/14/09 **

Looks like the item I received is Defective. It was an fascinating problem with this device. The Camcorder constantly *thinks* it is connected to the A/C energy provide. The way I arrived at this conclusion was that even when the gadget was operating just on battery, it didnt have the battery indicator exhibiting on the screen (which ought to be displaying as per the manual). Secondly, there is a setting “Car Energy Off” which is grayed out if the device is operating on A/C power, which was disabled when i was operating it only on battery. So, when i would switch off the gadget, the ACCESSS/CHG light would glow, as if its connected to external A/C energy and charging the battery, but it was not linked, so it was using the battery as a substitute and draining it.

I asked for a replacement, will update the critique once I get the replacement

I did get the replacement unit and it worked fantastic, no far more problems with battery or the ACCESS/CHG light becoming ON. The camcorder voice and video high quality are very good for a entry degree digital camera. I also tried burning immediately to a DVD and it works fantastic, no motor sound recorded on the DVD like make other camcorders. So, if you discover battery draining in your unit, make sure you quickly get a replacement. I am updating to a 4 star from a 3 star !

Don’t purchase this Camcorder! I received nothing but “disc error” on virtually all of my discs when I would load them. Sometimes it would even record for about 10 minutes, then give the “disc error” notification. It won’t even let you finalize the discs when this occurs! So, I’m left with discs that are unwatchable! WHat a gigantic waste of funds! A lot better to get a memory card camcorder – I suggest a JVC model.
I also called customer service about the consistent disc error and they mentioned it is a unusual occurance. Not genuine at all from what I’ve heard from other camcorder owners!

My review will be brief. Basically the digital camera has great ease of use and has an Okay picture on the CDs. The downer is that the CD length is only about a half hour. For the cards, the digital good quality seems significantly far better and not grainy except for reduced lit instances. All round it was a good get at the price.

1. The quality of the recording in anything other than bright daylight is abysmal and cannot be called high definition. It seems to have lines throughout the image, as if there was some kind of interference/static.

2. The camera takes an eternity to focus on the desired object; a blurry image appears instead. That is especially true when the camera is turned on and when using the zoom.

3. The manual says that by pressing the button “BLC” when filming someone indoors against bright light will fix the darkness problem, but it doesn’t work (the person filmed is still completely dark, and the person’s face can’t even be seen).

Overall, the camera does NOT seem to be functioning as a high definition – full HD – quality camera. My 1080i Sony Camcorder that was bought over one year ago has much better image quality.

I was extremely excited to buy this camera as it held a lot of promise. I waited months for it to become available. My disappointment with its performance was immediate. Very poor image quality indoors, and almost impossible to operate in low light. I quickly returned the camera and will try others.

As a first in any product, you might expect flaws, but this one is fatally flawed.

Video quality is poor. Very poor. I recommend looking elsewhere for much cheaper. This product is not worth your money.

Look at Sony or Panasonic.
