* The PlayTouch seemed to heat up when recording 1080p video. Clearly QuickTime rocks if you’re on a Mac. I don’t consider you’d ever use them in actual life, but they are entertaining to perform with for a couple of minutes and perhaps children would like them. I shot a couple of hours of footage in diverse scenarios and at various resolutions with the two mounted side-by-side. There have been absolutely some improvements in the PlayTouch over the Zi8: * The gadget itself is smaller sized and sleeker. I thought a rapid comparison of the two may well be valuable for other individuals that are hunting at the PlayTouch. * MP4 file format (vs. My little ones always appear to come close when the camera comes out, and the wider angle of the PlayTouch was considerably far better in these conditions. * The consumer interface on the PlayTouch was considerably slower and much less responsive than the Zi8. My editing software program (Sony Vegas) chokes on the . 264 video inside, but for some reason everything works far better in Windows with MP4. * The PlayTouch had a a lot wider angle lens. MP4 and MOV are just the container for the h. The Zi8 video display didn’t lag at all. There were a number of important ares in which the PlayTouch lost out to the Zi8: * The video on the PlayTouch had WAY too much contrast. Significantly worse than the Zi8. I could overlook the crummy consumer interface for the reduced light improvement, wider angle lens, and MP4 container format, but the significant stage down in video high quality can make it not possible for me to the consider the PlayTouch. In a typical outdoor shot with the sun overhead and some light shadows from trees, half of the frame was blown out from the sun even though the shadowy parts looked totally black. * Battery lifestyle was about one hour 5 minutes on the PlayTouch, even though it was about one hour 30 minutes on the Zi8. The Zi8 handled these circumstances with aplomb. The MP4 files from the PlayTouch played back significantly easier on my Windows machine than the equivalent MOV files from the Zi8. MOVs developed by the zi8, but operates wonderfully with MP4s. * The lower-light efficiency is much better on the PlayTouch. I consider it looks a bit greater than the older model. I purchased the PlayTouch and spent a couple of days comparing it to a borrowed Zi8. To me it was no query: I returned the PlayTouch and purchased a Zi8. * The PlayTouch has some nifty “effects” for your video. Probably some of the shortcomings of the PlayTouch can be fixed in long term firmware updates, but the fundamental image top quality difficulties can’t be fixed in firmware — they are intrinsic to the CMOS sensor Kodak chose to put in the PlayTouch. * The PlayTouch crashed occasionally requiring a reset. * The video displayed on the screen whilst recording is tiny and lagged by about one/two a 2nd. Every thing, from the menus to the time to commence recording following pressing the button, felt much more sluggish on the PlayTouch. You’d believe with a larger screen, the video displayed although recording would be larger, but you’d be wrong (The PlayTouch does show the video larger on playback in landscape mode, although). MOV on the Zi8). * The video on the PlayTouch did not seem as very good as the Zi8 at any resolution. I don’t know if it’s due to a reduced bitrate or something else in the compression, but the video from the PlayTouch had a lot more blocking and jaggy artifacts. It didn’t get burning hot, but it was hot enough to cause me some concern. * In something but vivid light, the PlayTouch video was very noisy. Neither camera is excellent in low-light, but the PlayTouch would get a picture in a dark room when the Zi8 would only record black.

Hi IdleGravity- Thanks so significantly for the feedback, I’ve forwarded it to the PlayTouch Group. 18 and it addresses these troubles. Thx for going with Kodak. We did just update the firmware to one
This camera is outstanding. . Ive experienced freeze-ups a couple of occasions but this camera is excellent and more than capable of shooting top quality footage. I adore it and have previously place it to good use. I had the zi8 and its pretty a lot the exact same point except for the touch display feature and the potential to trim video clips on the camera itself. Entirely upgradeable with camera lights, microphones and wide lens. I absolutely reccommend this item
