How do I download a movie onto my ipod?

Well…it’s my sisters ipod and for almost ever now we’ve been trying to download movies onto it but, doesn’t work and we spend hours trying to ge the movie onto the ipod. We already own the movie and would like it on the ipod so that when we take a road trip or something we will have the movie on there.
