USERS REVIEWS:

Soon after using each HD camcorders and devices like the FlipCam, I was hunting for a thing that fit somewhere in the middle provided that couple of of the personal computers close to the workplace are equipped to store and edit HD video files. Ironically, the older regular definition camcorders (D8 and miniDV) laying all around would have match the bill, if not for the fact offloading and sharing footage on them is cumbersome compared to the drag-and-drop file transfer you get with a flash media recorder.

So ultimately I was hunting for a thing with all the comfort of a FlipCam, but with a couple of much more attributes like zoom and SD card recording. I didn’t actually feel I’d discover a thing (at least from a significant producer) that match individuals specifications and that wasn’t HD, but with a handful of clicks of a merchandise wizard, I located Sony’s SX85.

The camera lacks two functions I generally appear for – headphone and external microphone jacks – but because I am not the one who will be using the camcorder most of the time, these attributes have been straightforward to forego. The video good quality is decent – not wonderful – but given the rather unremarkable wants (recording meetings, rapidly documenting one thing to share with colleagues), it’s sufficient. The lack of a viewfinder can be a small problematic in complete sunlight and having a lot of the functions and settings buried in the menu doesn’t make the camera a standout for usability, but for dead easy recording and easy access to the video files, it does what is essential.

I can verify the camcorder is compatible with Mac computers – recognized both by iMovie ’11 (which converts the native MPEG2 video files to MOV on importing) and the Mac OS (Snow Leopard) itself. For individuals looking to just pull the recorded files off the internal storage or SD card, the volumes will mount without issues (just be certain to acknowledge the USB connection on the camcorder menu screen). Following that all it will take is hunting a bit through the folders to uncover the recordings. Be conscious that with no the MPEG2 codec for Quicktime, the files won’t play in that application (you are going to need to have to buy Quicktime Pro), but VLC has no issue handling them and is in most circumstances a far better selection more than Quicktime anyway.

Just bought this Camera this week and it is wonderful, I am also a mac user and did not have any trouble
finding it to operate with my macbook pro. I had already upgraded my ilife to 11. But imovie was able
to download the motion pictures with our any troubles.

I bought this camcorder prior to a family members getaway because of the video and photo capability. It will take excellent video, and the attributes are quite handy, nonetheless, the photo high quality of this camera is merely awful. All of the photographs we took have been grainy, low light, and extremely poor high quality. The highest resolution setting is 640×480 – I have not had a camera with this reduced high quality considering that many years ago with my initial digital camera. I am returning this camera to the store.
