Hi. . . Just wanted to bring to your attention that Christian Bale is not in this film. The star of the film is Johnny Depp. Please change this — pretty big mistake.

Here’s yet another example of Hollywood messing up African-American history. First off, the title: if you’re doing a biopic on rap legends Public Enemy, you should get the name of the group right. It’s Public Enemy, singular, not Public Enemies, plural!! Secondly, why would you get Caucasians to play African-American musical legends? Johnny Depp and Christian Bale are fine actors, but there’s no way they can pull off playing Chuck D. and Flavor Flav convincingly. And to add further insult to injury, there’s no rapping in this film and it takes place in the 1930s, not the 1980s/1990s, which was the group’s heyday. It’s almost like the filmmakers ignored Chuck D. ‘s and Flavor Flav’s story altogether and came up with something entirely different. As Chuck and Flav eloquently put it, “Burn, Hollywood, Burn!!”

I’m a fan of Depp, but I am NOT a fan of movies that turn bad individuals into heroes. I actually find it quite deplorable when Hollywood turns some scumbag into a hero, or anti-hero as the case may be. It happens more and more these days. The line between good and bad is constantly blurred as they try to make you see “his side of it”. This shameful practice bleeds over into modern day society, where many kids grow up without a sense of right and wrong. All they see now are shades of gray. So I cannot, and will not, support another movie that takes a horrible person out of history and turns him into the next Hollywood icon. . . the next deplorable person for kids to look up to and emulate. Maybe there is a moral arch in this movie. But I bet you, dollars to donuts, that he is portayed as a cool, complex, sexy, even nice guy, who just had a little “crime problem”. . . versus the murdering sociopath that he actually was. Parents, better watch your daughters, because being criminal and deviant is the “new cool”. Pretty pathetic really.
